The Deep Web

You are now officialy browsing the Deep Web.

Spooky! ...But what does that even mean, anyway? "The Deep Web" is just anywhere on the internet that can't be acessed with a search engine. Examples include web pages that require you to enter a password to view them, or web pages archived by the Wayback Machine.

I made the page you're reading part of the Deep Web by typing <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> into the <head> section of this html file. This tells Google and other web crawlers to ignore this page. You can try looking up this page on any search engine, you won't be able to find it.

Wait, isn't this illegal?

You may be thinking of the Dark Web, a similar but different concept. The Dark Web is anything hosted on a darknet, which is a network that can only be accessed with specific software or authorizations. Examples of darknets include Tor and I2P. The anonyminity of darknets means that they are often used for shady and illegal things like drug trafficking, but they can be used for legitimate reasons.
